There are certain statements that are not easily forgotten. For instance, in 2012 Sir Alex Ferguson by taking on Robin van Persie who was then footballer of the year and Arsenal striker of repute.
His statement was in the Premier League and it was regarding being able to win the title of Premier League one last time. Even though the squad did come under financial pressure he took on the striker of 29 years of age and for 24 million Pounds. He had scored about 26 goals in the 2012-2013 seasons, which also lead to a hat trick win of Aston Villa
and resulted in United winning their league title for the 20th
Ferguson at that time indulged in buying Van Persie for the team. It was akin to a retirement present that he bought for himself and the team. It is a similar situation now as Jamie Vardy; the present player of the year is being bid for by Arsene Wenger who is on his way out. (more…)
Robin van Persie who is currently playing with Fenerbahce seems to be too good for the Turkish league.
Indeed, with the kind of goal that the former Manchester United and Arsenal player scored against Gaziantepspor, you will get the perception that van Persie is too good for the Turkish league.
Indeed, he received a ball that put him one against one with the keeper and instead of firing a shot into the net; he just dribbled past the keeper as if he was not there. At 32 years old, van Persie is still full of running and can definitely play at the top level for at least 2 or 3 years more.

“Fenerbahce paid a big transfer fee for me so I want to help the team, but I cannot contribute as much as I want when I am taken off each game. I cannot be efficient like this. We have to find a solution for this situation,” the striker cried.
He has played 40 matches in all competitions this season for the club scoring 15 goals. In the Turkish Super Lig, he has only started 14 matches out of 25 total appearances this season. The 21-year-old was recently brought in from Dutch football £ 25 million. He is widely known as the winger, but van Gaal has revealed another dimension within the Dutchman. He says thatDepay has always shown the ability to learn as he goes in the game. This would allow him to become a striker in the future. Even though he is not the most physical player around,Depay can use his incredible pace to great advantage according to van Gaal.

And, it’s not only the story of the league. In the other competitions as well in which they are taking part, they are putting on ordinary displays of Football. (more…)
Robin van Persie is back to the scoring form that made him one of the most feared players in the Premier League.
He has scored four goals in his last five league appearances. He is expected to be on the scoresheet against Liverpool during the weekend. This is one of the biggest matches for United since the defeat against Manchester City. Louis van Gaal recently had success in the first big match after managing a win over Arsenal, but this was largely seen as a fluke result. United will have to produce a top performance even against the Liverpool team is struggling to get results.
Van Persie is once again amongst the favourites to score and the 31-year-old has revealed the circumstances in which he failed to perform well in the first half of the season. The Dutchman came on the back of a tiring World Cup 2014 campaign in which Netherlands finished in the third place. Even though this was not a great World Cup for van Persie personally, he did score some spectacular goals. Last season, he was plagued by injury problems like in his time at Arsenal, but he seems to have overcome it in the last few months. The Dutchman says that it is extremely difficult to get going immediately after a major international tournament.
“I’ve played five tournaments now – three European Championships and two World Cups – and based on those tournaments and the period after, it’s always been difficult to get straight back into the flow and into form. It’s tough. You are trying absolutely everything, but it’s not coming off. You don’t have that kind of luck you normally have. It was a tough start for me and the team,” said van Persie. Despite Liverpool’s poor form, the Dutchman has warned United that they need to beat in their best.
Netherlands sealed the 3rd spot of the 2014 World Cup and Manchester United’s Robin van Persie played a huge role in that task as he scored 4 goals in the tournament. Van Persie captained his country to what was a fairly impressive and successful event.
When the latest edition of the World Cup reached its end, the player of Manchester United went on revealing some of his plans in the future as the Dutch forward stated that he wants to compete in the 2018 World Cup and playing until he’s 40 years old.
Van Persie told reporters: ”I will be 35 then and I will do everything to be there. I live quietly, this saves a few years. My goal is to play at the highest level for as long as possible and being available for the national team is a part of that. I am 31 now and I have a little less than nine years to go. I won’t be playing for a major club at the age of 40, although I do still want to be playing professional football at that age. That’s my goal.”
The former star of Arsenal currently has a contract with Manchester United which runs up until 2016 and it’s not expected that the Premier League club would be extending his contract any further as the team is trying to avoid keeping hold of senior players and want to keep rejuvenating the squad.
One of the decisions that Van Persie could do in a few years’ time is to make a move to the MLS and continue playing at a high level which is what he said that one of his main goals was and if he can remain scoring goals as well as making standout performances, his chances of being named into the Netherlands squad for the 2018 World Cup could be alive.
Roy Keane returned back to the Premier league after taking on the assistant manager’s role at Aston Villa. This is quite a surprise given that he was manager of Sunderland only a few years ago. However, disappointments in the managerial career over the last few years have forced him to go back to square one. Keane has been a major influence at Aston Villa since coming according to manager Paul Lambert. He has also leapt to the defence of the former Irish midfielder by saying that the media criticise him for his temper, but they do not see him from the near.
Lambert and Aston Villa are preparing for tough season ahead. The club has allowed some key players like Marc Albrighton to leave on a free transfer, while the likes of Fabian Delph and Gabriel Agbonlahor could also leave in this transfer window. Since they have just 12 months left on their contracts, speculation has been immense about their futures. For the moment, Lambert is concentrating only on the pre-season. He says that having a top-class player like Keane as part of the coaching setup helps him a lot, while he also trusts the former Manchester United midfielder completely.
Keane is also the assistant to Gordon Strachan for the Republic of Ireland national team.
“I can really trust him. He is a really good football person – a top man. He has been great. People shouldn’t get caught up with Roy Keane being this aggressive person. With the career he has had as a footballer – and people forget he had a lot of success as a football manager – what he says is really positive, especially to the young players. If they don’t take a leaf out of his book then there is something wrong. If they don’t take in some of the things he says, I think there would be something wrong for them as an individual,” said Lambert.
The way the ongoing season has gone for Manchester United, it’s certain that there will be strict decisions taken by the board at the end of it.
There might be a few sackings and it might be the manager himself to suffer it. Nobody knows, but, one thing is looking pretty clear that if Moyes continues to receive the backing of the owners and is given another season to prove himself, some heavyweight players of the club will start thinking seriously about their future and one of them will be Robin Van Persie.
There have been a lot of reports this season suggesting that all is not well between the Dutch striker and the manager. Although, nothing has been said in the public yet by the two guys regarding that but, it can be felt.
Moreover, the main reason behind Van Persie leaving Arsenal and joining United at the start of the 2012-13 Season was the chance to play under the guidance of the legend Sir Alex Ferguson, but, he’s gone now and United is looking like a club which will have to go through a transition phase.
Van Persie is already close to 31 years of age. He would definitely not like to waste his 2-3 peak years playing for a club which has very little chances of winning trophies in the near future and that too when his tuning with the manager is not great.
If some sources are to be believed, United might not be that keen to convince Van Persie to stay either. A long contract extension given to Wayne Rooney recently means that it’s him around whom the club wants to build the new team now.
Let’s see what happens. It’s going to be pretty interesting next few months for the Red Devils fans.
