The list of the best bargain transfers in Premier League history was compiled by the Ex-Premier League trio of Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

Robin Van Persie signed for Arsenal in the summer from Dutch Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord. The Gunners paid around £2.4m for the former Dutch national team player and he proved to be a bargain buy for the North Londoners.

During his time at Arsenal, Robin Van Persie scored 96 goals for the North London giants in the Premier League. He was on course to become a legend at Arsenal until he asked for a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United with one year left on his contract. The Gunners were forced to sanction his £24m move to Manchester United. He would go on to fire the Red Devils to the Premier League title in his first season at the club, netting 26 goals in the process.

Robin Van Persie spent eight years at Arsenal from 2004 to 2012 when he left to sign for Manchester United.

Lineker and Shearer talked about the best bargain buys in Premier League history on Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast. Shearer ranked Robin Van Persie (RVP) sixth on his list.

The former Premier League players also talked about RVP’s teammate at Arsenal, KoloToure. The Gunners paid just £150,000 for him and he joined from ASEC Mimosas in his native Ivory Coast. Toure went on to become a key part of the Arsenal defence that didn’t bulge while the club went through the 2003/04 campaign without a single defeat.
