Dutchman Robin Van Persie (RVP) has issued a brilliant response to the statement from Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez after his former Arsenal teammate told Amazon Prime that Robin Van Persie used to mock him at Arsenal by calling him opposite. Robin Van Persie andEmiliano Martinez were teammates at Arsenal beforethe Dutchman left North London to join Manchester United. According to Martinez, Robin Van Persie mocked him by calling him opposite because he frequently dived in the other direction in the act of saving shots.
In response to the statement from Villa shot stopper Martinez, Van Persie posted on his Instagram story that he was trying to motivate the Argentine international to become a better goalkeeper. The Dutchman said that he was only trying to motivate Martinez and that it’s nice to see that he has become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
Martinez was at Arsenal for several years, but he didn’t enjoy a run in the first teamuntil German international Bernd Leno was injured during a collision with Brighton and Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay at the end of the 2019/20 season. At the time, Leno was the first choice goalkeeper, while Martinez was the second choice.
Argentine shot stopper Martinez replaced the injured Leno in the Arsenal goal for the final weeks of the season and he impressed a great deal as the Gunners ended the season with the FA Cup title. He was in goal when Arsenal saw off Manchester City and Chelsea in the semi-final and final respectively on the way to the FA Cup title.
