On Thursday, Robin van Persie, the Arsenal striker, was quite relaxed regarding his future as he received the Football Writers’ Player of the Year award, insists that no matter he plays for Arsenal in the future or not, he will always be a gunner.
The 28 year old Dutch player was positioned at the top after the poll by journalists with a marginal win over Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes of Manchester United, followed by Clint Dempsey of Fulham who is at the 4th spot.
Van Persie’s thirty-five goals in all championships have served propel the Gunners into the top – 4 spot of the English Premier League, leaving them on the threshold of getting an automatic spot in the Champions League next season.
While speaking regarding his contract with Arsenal, he told that they have not set a time for that, but they will hold a meeting with the boss like they hold it before. They will have a meeting regarding his future as well as whole lot of other things. He added that he feels like a Gunner and whatever takes place – he will always be a Gunner.
At present, Arsenal are confronting a stiff competition from Tottenham for Jan Vertonghen as well as Junior Hoilett and Eden Hazard, along with results in the next ten days to figure the summer transfer for both these clubs.
According to Harry Redknapp, Tottenham have been looking Vertonghen, but his coach Frank de Boer at Ajax is asking the Belgian to join the Spanish Barcelona.

The observation by critics about Arsenal being a one-man team has been proved yet again with The Gunners riding a brace from talismanic Dutch striker Robin Van Persie to overcome Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield. Liverpool, fresh from their League Cup win in their first trip to the new Wembley against Cardiff City, controlled the entire match and could have gone in front in the 18th minute had Dutch midfielder Dirk Kuyt not missed the penalty that was awarded to them. Kuyt took the responsibility of taking the penalty after Charlie Adam’s horrific miss in the tie breaker in the League Cup final but he too, failed to convert the chance.
Liverpool did take the lead eventually when Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny put the ball into his own net but it didn’t take long for The Gunners to respond with Robin Van Persie putting Arsene Wenger’s men on level terms. The entire match was played in the Arsenal half with Liverpool having the more clear cut chances and had it not been for the lackluster Liverpool finishing, they could have finished the match a few goals to the good.
But that was not to be an Van Persie popped up with the winner for Arsenal in injury time, handing The Gunners an unlikely win that gives them a chance to climb up the table for a UEFA Champions League spot an Liverpool are still 10 points adrift of the final Champions League position, with only 11 matches left.
But when it comes to Arsenal, they must buy players at the end of the season as they cannot keep on depending on Robin Van Persie, who has grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of transfer activity and might just walk out on the club if Arsene Wenger does not splash the cash.

“Every squad can use the likes of Samir and Cesc. We miss them but we have new players who are doing a terrific job. We’ve changed the way we play a bit and of course I am playing in a different role to previously,” said the Dutch striker. Talismanic Arsenal striker Robin van Persie has emerged as a transfer target for a host of big European clubs, including the likes of nine times European Cup champions Real Madrid and cash rich English Premier League club Manchester City.
The Dutch striker, who was recently named as the captain of the football club after the summer departures of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri to Manchester City has stalled on negotiations for a new contract until the summer and this has given the other clubs hope that they might be able to lure van Persie from Arsenal who don’t want to lose their talisman for nothing when his contract with the club runs out at the end of next season.
Real Madrid are looking at the Dutch international striker to add more sharpness to their strike force which has not been firing on all cylinders whereas Manchester City consider Robin van Persie to be the ideal replacement for Carlos Tevez, who is almost certain to leave the club in January.
The Netherlands international has been in the form of his life during this season, having scored 15 goals in the English Premier League which puts him on top of the goal scorers’ list and has also been pivotal in Arsenal’s turnaround after having a disastrous start to the season. He was also rumored to be linked with a move to Chelsea but there was no confirmation of this news and it seems that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson might also test Arsenal’s resolve to hold onto the striker with a substantial bid either in the January transfer window or during the summer. Till then, Robin van Persie is very much an Arsenal player and the management hopes that he will sign a new contract that will ward off interest for his signature.
